Stylised gastroenterology technology

Dr Midhun John is a specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with a broad interest in digestive and liver health.

Training

After obtaining his MBChB from the University of Cape Town, he completed his internship at Frere Hospital in East London, followed by community service at Bheki Mlangeni District Hospital in Soweto.

He then undertook specialist physician training within the University of the Witwatersrand academic circuit, with experience across Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, before completing subspecialist training in Medical Gastroenterology at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

His gastroenterology training also included experience in complex liver disease and liver transplantation through the Wits Donald Gordon Liver Unit.

Clinical interests

Dr John cares for a wide range of gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic and biliary conditions, with special interests in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), and oesophageal manometry and analysis.

The approach

Good medical care begins with listening. Digestive symptoms can be complex and can affect many aspects of daily life. Dr John aims to give patients the opportunity to tell their story, understand their concerns and feel heard.

Investigations, diagnoses and treatment options are explained in understandable language so that patients can take part in decisions about their care.
